Despite, or perhaps because of a bit of oversleeping, I had a fairly productive day. Sadly, I did not get to talk with my Sweetheart this morning, but we had a longer-than-usual talk tonight. I was glad for a brief text conversation this morning that let me know he was safe. The ice storm has already resulted in his church congregation's meeting being called off.
At the Library I had several hours to be on the floor before my research time started. I was able to help several guests during that time: I explained to a dad and daughter that she could not access his records on Family Tree because he is still living. However, she could access his Dad's record, and once he entered death information on his Mom, she could access that. The possibility of getting an Ancestry account was mentioned, so I turned them over to one of the young elders at that point, since he could do that much more efficiently than I could.
I was asked to help with some German research that was not typical. The couple has their lines back well into the 1700s. I was able to share Hansen's Map Guide for Hessen-Nassau, but I did not feel like I helped much. However, the man was very pleased to see how the areas he is searching all fit together, but we got copies made of the relevant pages. This man will actually be starting a Church Service Mission soon, hopefully in the Library. Otherwise, I suggested he needs to come on a weekday when we can page a staff member to help him. Records from Hessen-Nassau are not very accessible.
I got to translate in a general way a Konfirmation certificate, and also explain what confirmation meant in the Lutheran church. As a former Lutheran, I have had experience with that. I did a little bit of regular deciphering of a record for another guest.
I was just a little late getting to my lunch, and then on to research. With a short break to take care of a different duty, I was able to spend more than four hours cleaning up Eppingen records and entering more names. I keep thinking I should be getting finished soon, but I keep finding more descendents of my ancestors. I have made extensive use of a new Family Tree tool--"Check Your Relationship". This tool goes back 15 generations, and has been very helpful to keep me focused on what is my own business, and not getting side-tracked. I was able to determine that a set of parents of one of my relatives was the wrong line. I think I was able to fix that appropriately.
When I left the Library I decided to go back to the Hispanic market to get more pineaples. I also got a bag of discounted bananas to replenish the supply in my freezer.
When I returned to the apartment, I began working on food for tomorrow's dinner. I decided to make a chopped salad with raw cauliflower as the primary ingredient. All went well until I poured an 8-oz bottle of Intalian dressing on the salad and tasted it. The bottle of dressing was "Zesty"! Peppery is how I would describe it! I decided that I had better make a sweet salad for anyone who can do without Zesty! Blessedly, I had more raw Cauliflower. So we will have two salad options to choose from. I also decided that in addition to serving fresh pineapple chunks, I would make a Pineapple Dessert. So dinner is pretty well ready to go.
I did not get to start this post until quite late, so I will close.
